Burst Into Spring is an annual event held by the Isanti County Master Gardeners. Due to weather conditions it was canceled, but they have coordinated a mini event with two of the most popular topics. Four Season Foraging Founder Maria Wesserle will deliver a keynote speech and provide a medicinal plant class.
KEYNOTE - Incredible Qualities of Common Weeds
by Maria Wesserle, Four Season Foraging Founder
Weeds provoke the ire of many gardeners, but "what is a weed but a plant whose virtues remain undiscovered?" Several weeds that grow in our gardens are edible and delicious, and many of those have a much higher nutritional value than cultivated varieties. Learn about the myriad edible parts of wild plants like dandelion and plantain, as well as cultivated escapees such as ox-eye daisy and daylily, and head home with a newfound appreciation for these ubiquitous plants!
CLASS- Medicinal Herbs in Your Garden
by Maria Wesserle, Four Season Foraging Founder
Many herbs that we grow in our gardens for their scent, beauty, or taste also have exceptional medicinal properties! Furthermore, some of those "weeds" that we uproot are actually healthful herbs. Come learn about common medicinal plants such as rose, yarrow, wild bergamot, and dandelion, then acquire some basic knowledge on preparing them. Discover the medicine cabinet right in your own backyard!
